Hindrances to Biblical Prosperity: Spiritual Blindness

So what comes next when you finally come to understand that God wants to multiply you, increase you, and prosper you in this life? Do health, wealth, and restoration all come to your doorstep in a day? Do you sit in your house and wait for things to just "happen"? You continue. You continue in the WORD, and you continue in faith.

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. John 8:31-32

We must understand that the blessing of the LORD that makes a man rich and has no sorrow added to it, does not equate to a life where we must never face sickness, lack, brokenness, or difficulty. This is why one of the main principles of the life of faith is endurance.

Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces endurance; and endurance, character; and character, hope. Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

Romans 5:1-5

We rejoice and glory in the tribulations and hardships that come our way because we know that they are making us the overcomers and conquerors Christ has called us to be. When Timothy faced tribulations overseeing the church, Paul advised Timothy to "endure hardness as a good soldier of Jesus Christ" (2 Timothy 2:3). As believers, we are a people who are more than conquerors in Christ Jesus, we do not shrink back from our calling nor do we shy away from invoking our blessing in Christ just because life presents us with trying circumstances.

While tribulation is most definitely going to be encountered, it is not a hindrance to biblical prosperity. In fact, Christians tend to prosper in the midst of arduous times because it testifies of Jesus Christ and His power in our lives. The hindrances to prosperity do not come from God, nor do they come from our circumstances... they come from within ourselves.

It has been established in previous blogs that biblical prosperity comes from God because HE IS Prosperity in Himself. But where prosperity starts being made manifest in our own lives is from within our hearts. The money trail in one's life leads to one's treasure, thus revealing where their heart is. And it is in the heart where biblical prosperity is either born and starts producing, or it is blocked.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Matthew 6:21

One of the first hindrances to biblical prosperity is spiritual blindness. This is a failure to see who God is and what kind of Father we have in Him. Our past experiences and the bad decisions we have made before knowing God, often lead us to believe lies about ourselves and about God that keep us from receiving His Truth. But, the Truth is that nothing from the past can negate God's blessing today!... Unless you allow it to.

Many of us have allowed our experiences to shape our view of God. Perhaps we had an earthly father who abused or abandoned us, and now we expect the same character from our Heavenly Father. This happens when we permit our experiences to be greater than God's WORD, and we believe what has happened to us more than we believe GOD happening to us. God's WORD must rule over our experiences.

The only cure to this spiritual blindness, is to develop a personal revelation of the Father's care for you. Notice how I used the word "develop." This revelation doesn't always happen in a day. Coming to know and understand how much someone loves you takes time and effort in a relationship. We must put time and effort into developing a real and deep relationship with God through His WORD in order to receive and walk in the revelation of Who He truly is as our Father.

Let them shout for joy and be glad, Who favor my righteous cause; And let them say continually, “Let the LORD be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.

Psalm 35:27

If God delights in the prosperity of His servant, then how much more does He delight in the prosperity of His own sons and daughters? Through Jesus Christ, we are now adopted into the family of God. We don't only call God our Master, or our Teacher, but we call Him "Abba, Father" or "Dad" because He has become just as much our Father as He is to Jesus. Prosperity is even more than a blessing in our lives now, it is a birthright. Born of water and the spirit, we are now born into the prosperity of God as much as we are born into the holiness, righteousness, forgiveness, and salvation of God. Hallelujah! The word for prosperity in Hebrew is "Shalom" which means to be well, happy, friendly, healthy, whole, blessed, favored, and in perfect peace. If the welfare, success, peace, and joy of our own children gives us pleasure, how much more does GOD take pleasure in the prosperity of His children- you and I?

God's name is literally "El Shaddhai" which means "more than enough." We can combat spiritual blindness by understanding that God's provision never runs out for His children, He is never limited therefore we should not limit Him ourselves, and the God of More Than Enough is our Father! He is our Dad! Just as you have the same DNA as your earthly biological dad, we are now given the same spirit as our heavenly dad. And according to scripture, flesh and blood profit nothing- it's the Spirit that gives true and eternal life. When you know how much your Father loves & cares for you & that His resources are unlimited, your days of worry, fear, poverty, and lack are over. The day that you get a vision inside of your heart that you are favored, blessed, loved, and sufficiently provided for because of Who your Father is, not because of anything that you've done, is the day that God's prosperity will begin to reign in your heart.

But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

1 Timothy 5:8

This verse tells us that a father that chooses not to provide for his own household is denying the Christian faith and is even worse than an unbeliever. I am not here to condemn you if you are in a season of struggling financially to provide for your family. We will face lack, and facing lack does not mean one is not providing for his household. It is a conscious choice within. But what this verse is also telling us is that GOD holds Himself accountable to His WORD, too! You are in HIS household, and HE WILL PROVIDE FOR YOU. He wants you to expect Him to live by His WORD in your life, too!

God is your Father!

He cares for you!

You are a member of His family and His household!

He will not deny providing for you because He cannot deny Himself!

And HE IS NOT an unbeliever!

Your household is covered, because HIS household is covered! AMEN.

God is your Father.
God is your Father.
God cares for you so much that He sacrificed the life of Jesus to have you in His family.
God cares for you so much that He sacrificed the life of Jesus to have you in His family.
He will provide for you. He is not an unbeliever. He will not deny His own child who seeks after Him. Even when we are faithless, He is faithful because He cannot deny Himself. 2 Timothy 2:13
He will provide for you. He is not an unbeliever. He will not deny His own child who seeks after Him. Even when we are faithless, He is faithful because He cannot deny Himself. 2 Timothy 2:13

We are in the household of God, and in God's household is where we belong.

"Therefore you are no longer outsiders (exiles, migrants, and aliens, excluded from the rights of citizens), but you now share the citizenship with the saints (God's own people, consecrated and set apart for Himself); and you belong to God's [own] household."

Ephesians 2:19 AMPC

We are not outsiders begging to come in. We are not alienated from God and His provision and His blessing. We have a seat at the family table. We share in all that is His. Jesus has qualified us to forever partake of God's portion. We are citizens of the same kingdom as Jesus Christ. We carry the same spiritual passport with the same stamps as Jesus Christ, freely living in the kingdom of God forever and ever. We live in the same kingdom, we hail the same citizenship, and we all live under the same roof as Jesus- under the rooftop of God our Father. It is HIS house that we live in. He is our Father! He cares for us! He is our Source! He is our provision! This is the revelation we need of our Heavenly Father so that we do not fall prey to spiritual blindness.

Jesus even told us to look at the birds in order to understand how much our Father loves and cares for us.

Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are?

Matthew 6:26

The birds do nothing for the kingdom of God in that they don't minister, they don't bring people to Jesus, they don't harvest souls, they don't have spiritual gifts, and they don't go to Heaven. But God makes sure that they are sheltered in storms and well-fed in every season. How much more will your Father provide for you? How much more value are you to Him, than the birds? Infinitely more!

God will provide for you. He is not a cruel, cold, careless Father. He is the most loving Father that ever existed. He will supply all of your needs. He will take care of you. He is your Father. He loves you.

When you have a revelation of the Father's love for you, spiritual blindness can no longer hinder His prosperity from taking root in your heart and revealing itself in your life. A son or daughter of God who knows and understands how much their Father loves them, also knows that lack, poverty, sickness, and any past experience cannot stand against that Perfect Love! If you are realizing that you do not have a revelation of this unshakeable and unconditional love of God, then begin to pray for Him to give you one! Ask the LORD for a revelation of His unchanging, fatherly, perfect love in your life! Ask the LORD to help you develop this revelation over time as you seek Him in His WORD and pursue a deeper relationship with God. He will gladly answer such a prayer.

May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ.

2 Thessalonians 3:5

Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom. Luke 12:32
